Connecting to a GIS server provides access to features and capabilities that are provided as online services. you can connect toArcGIS server,ArcGIS on-lineturnkey services and servers Open Geospatial Consortium, Inc. (OGC).
When you connect to aArcGIS serversite, options allow you to use services, publish services or manage the server. If the server is aArcGIS Enterprisefederated server,ArcGIS Proit only supports connections that allow the use of services. If the server is independentArcGIS serversite, you can publish services and use them: the connection with the highest number of privileges allowed for your credentials is created. Once you have a publisher connection, you can upgrade your connection to admin level if your credentials allow it.
To use:
you may needto updateyour connection to the server if the server's content changes outside of your currentArcGIS Prosession. you may needto repairthe connection if it becomes invalid.
server credentials
Unless a server allows anonymous access, you must provide a login (username and password) when creating a connection. If the server is federated with aArcGIS Enterpriseportal, use your portal account login. If the server is standalone, use a login provided by the server administrator.
A login can be saved inwindowsCredential Manager (default) or to your server's connection file (or both).windowsCredential Manager is recommended for two reasons. First, it's a more secure place for credentials than a file stored on the file system. Second, anyArcGIS Proprocess that requires login can accesswindowsCredential Manager; generally, you will not be prompted for credentials again when using the server connection on that computer.
Pythonscripts, however, cannot accesswindowsCredential Manager. If you run scripts that require server credentials, the safest practice is to encrypt the login in the script. The alternative is to save the login in a connection file.
To use:
Some resources stored on the server, such as map files (.mapx), it may prompt for credentials when adding them to a project. If your login is saved inwindowsCredential Manager, this only happens once; after that, the resource recognizes the credentials. If your login is saved in a connection file, you will be asked for your credentials every time you add the resource.
Access a server in a folder
You can browse a GIS server and access its content from a folder connection. This can be useful if you create files using data on the server and store them in the same folder as the server connection file.
- Connect to a foldercontaining the server you want to use.
- NoCatalogpanel, theSatisfiedpanel of a catalog view or a catalog view window, locate the folder that contains the server.
